A SCANDINAVIAN AESTHETIC – GIMLA

Created for a Swedish family to embark on a worldwide adventure, this yacht had a strong Scandinavian aesthetic. The quote ‘Minimalism is not a lack of something, it’s simply the perfect amount of something’ is a perfect summary of our first meetings together.

Our brief was to create a distinctly modern interior that still felt like a warm and inviting family home. With a practical five-cabin layout aft, the owner’s cabin was split over two levels with a walk-in wardrobe, sauna and office area. The distinctive curved corridor separated the master suite from the other guest cabins and sliced through the rectilinear grid of the accommodation, creating unique features in both the lobby and the cabins.

The central atrium staircase floods the lower decks with light and orientates guests around the dramatic open-plan multi-level saloon, a large social area combining lounging, dining study and navigational areas. With a simple palette of birch, teak and weathered lime oak overheads the yacht has the feel of a calm family home.
