Dick Young
Director
With a career span of nearly twenty years in the yacht design industry, Dick formed what is now Rhoades Young Design in 2001. Dick can recall some 50 individual projects worked on during this period, from the creative design elements through to the project management when the yachts were in build.
Dick’s early career began with Andrew Winch Designs, rising to the role of Creative Director where he implemented a legacy of specialist office management systems for yacht design. Part of a long line of design successes at the Winch studio, Dick’s last achievement was the Royal Huisman built `Surama’, which went on to win a ShowBoats Design Award for Best Sailing Yacht Interior – a fitting platform to start out on his own.
Dick’s new venture got off to a flying start in 1998 with a contract to give the Oyster range a fresh new interior style to move into the new Millennium. The first superyacht contract followed shortly after, with a Royal Huisman built 40m Bruce King classic sloop. The office grew steadily from this point and quickly moved onto the international stage with many prestigious projects at equally prestigious shipyards.
2006 saw five yacht launches alone with three yachts participating in the Monaco yacht show of that year. These milestone yachts – plus the new projects that can be seen in the News section – are a testament to Dick’s work and the design team he has assembled at the Lymington studios.
